The end of our voyage - South Dakota!

We have had a really great week and a half of traveling and moving. We arrived at our new apartment in South Dakota on Thursday morning and have spent our time since then getting unpacked and trying to reclaim a normal routine.

Our apartment is smaller than our previous place, but it was in very good shape when we arrived. We're renting a storage shed for anything that we won't use in the next few months and that made unpacking very easy. We're hoping to buy a house before the new home buyer credit expires, making this a fairly temporary stop.

Our first meal in the new apartment - a picnic lunch!

This apartment has a great kitchen!

Grandma and Grandpa B arrived at our new home on Thursday afternoon with a small moving truck filled with hand-me down furniture we can use in our future home. (They are moving to a condo in a few weeks.) Friday morning our big orange truck arrived.
Grandma and I toured around town with the kids while the heavy lifting was going on. Grandma and Grandpa M arrived later in the day to help us get settled too.

They brought us some of the beans that M.G. planted!
Grandma and Grandpa B drove home on Friday night and Grandma and Grandpa M left on Sunday afternoon. It was so much fun to have them here helping us move in and we are looking forward to seeing them more often now that we are closer.

At this point we are very excited and hopeful about living here. The town appears to have quite a lot of growth going on and it seems family friendly. We drove around and looked at the outside of a few of the houses we remembered from when we looked at real estate on the internet and are excited to begin searching for our own home. Coincidentally a local real estate agency is holding a "cruise of open houses" this week - showing around 35 houses over the rest of the week. We went to a few today to get a feel for the neighborhoods and I think we'll to to a few later in the week as well.

The kids are doing well with their new home. Monkey Girl had a bit of a rough patch transitioning between the fun of road tripping and getting back into normal life, but she is enjoying her new room and play room now. The kids share a room for sleeping and then have a separate toy room. M2 is enjoying the view from the toy room - so many diggers and tractors to watch as they build a new apartment building.
Laundry room and Fat Tire Ale - what a life!

Papa is going into work tomorrow to see his office and get the lay of the land. It will be strange to have him back at work after a few weeks of partial days and vacation. But, it will be good for the kids and I to find a new routine as well. Preschool starts on Sep. 10th and we're all looking forward to that.

I'll post photos of our travel week soon!

I'm glad you're all settled...or starting to at least...I wish we could've been there to help! Sounds like you had it well in hand, though. Hopefully we can visit sometime.

The new place looks really nice! I'm excited to hear how you kept the kids entertained during the trip- I will no doubt be referring back to this someday when we move again. And what a nice idea to take them somewhere else while all the unpacking was happening! I'll have to try that next time, too.

Sarah, the kitchen looks awesome! And the view of the diggers? Priceless. Glad you've had a chance to keep us all updated in internet-land. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the house cruise this weekend finds you a perfect place!

can't wait to see more pictures, to hear about Maine AND to visit.

I have never been to South Dakota.

Congratulations on your move and the new place. The kitchen looks awesome. Is the laundry room actually in the apartment? That's so cool! :)

A big kitchen and laundry! You are in heaven now! Have fun on the "cruise" - it's just the type of thing I really enjoy.
