M3: 4 month doctor visit

Today M3 went to the doctor for her 4 month exam.

She's the picture of health. The doctor actually said that she was perfectly healthy and with her sunny personality I'm just going to say she's perfect all around.

She was in a great mood and kept giggling, smiling, and making happy faces at the nurse and doctor. M3 let out a big giggle every time the doctor placed the stethoscope and also had very important things she was trying to say during her exam. The doctor noticed that M3's lower gum was swollen and it was hard to miss the extra drool, so she agrees that M3's teething. The doctor also recommended iron drops based on M3's age.

Today M3 weighed 16 lbs, 8 oz (95 percentile) and was 26.5 inches long, which is off the chart. She gained just under 2 lbs and grew 1.75 inches. She had a 2nd dose of the Pentacel (DTaP, Hib, and Polio). The doctor recommended we wait until 6 to 12 months for the pneumococcal vaccine because the reformulated version can give young babies a rash. I had gone in thinking that vaccine was very important for newborns, so I'll have to do some reading to figure out when we want her to have it.

As a new parent, with M.G., we wanted to delay the vaccines as much as possible but pressure from her doctors led us to pretty much follow the CDC schedule. As time goes by I'm starting to lean more toward the idea of just following the schedule and getting it over with before she remembers the shots, since she'll have to get the majority for school anyway. But, now we'd be going against the doctor's advice to do that! Since we still plan to always delay if there is a reason, we'll hold off on Hep B and the pneumococcal, but it's funny how things change.

M3 was too busy smiling at the nurse to notice what was going on and didn't even flinch as the shot went in. I think she was more surprised about getting the band-aid pressed on than anything else. Then she fell asleep as soon as we got into the car. We'll see if she is extra fussy like last time.

M2 has been having a lot of fun talking to M3 now. He likes to give her toys and then tell me how helpful he is. M3 is loving his attention. Last week he told me I should take a picture of them being big kids on the couch together. (Isn't it great how with a click of the mouse I could crop out the huge mess of toys and books that were in the original photo!)
