This Has Happened

My brother is collaborating to self-publish a book of poetry and artwork, This Has Happened, born from the strong emotions he and co-author, Jeannine Chappell, dealt with in the year after a serious car accident injured David and killed Jeannine's son, Alex.

Please visit This Has Happened for more information.  If you would like to support their self-publication of this book, please visit This Has Happened: Kickstarter.

April 14th, 2011 my brother David was seriously injured in a car accident.  He was riding home with his friend Alex when a drunk driver struck the truck in which they were traveling.  The truck flipped several times before coming to a stop. Alex was killed in the crash.  David was taken to the hospital and required surgery to repair lacerations to his intestine.  Both of his legs were broken, his left requiring a later surgery to repair.  He had numerous other injuries and spent a month in the hospital before he could continue to recover at home.

In the months after the crash, my brother started writing poetry as an outlet for the overwhelming emotions caused by the loss of his friend and the trauma from the accident.  Later he learned that Jeannine had been making sketches to help deal with the loss of her son.

This Has Happened combines their work and touches on the universal themes of loss, grief, injury, and healing.  Please consider visiting their Kickstarter page to sponsor their work.
