M.G. had her 8th birthday while we were in Minnesota at the end of the year. We gave her lots of fun ideas for the day and it was really tough to decide what to do! We started the day playing games at Grandma and Grandpa M's house before we all met up with Grandma and Grandpa B at Buca di Beppo's.
This has become a tradition for her and she looks forward to the candle and singing at the end!
We headed back to Grandma and Grandpa M's after lunch.
A microphone was on her Christmas list and we were happy to find this one that doesn't use batteries - it has a nice echo-y sound and makes her voice sound sufficiently different without making it much louder. We also got her a children's atlas because she had asked for "any type of map" and a set of chapter books Papa thought she'd enjoy. For a few weeks she'd been checking out the presidential Pez dispensers at the store and trying to decide if she'd save up for them - it was great to see her grin when she opened them!
M.G.'s original idea for a cake was fairies playing in a garden.
That was above my talent level. She didn't have any back-up suggestions
and said it would be ok for me to surprise her. She seemed to really
like the octopus with 8 arms and even decided the number 8 looked like
water bubbles. She wanted yellow cake with chocolate frosting, so the
sides were done with chocolate and I used white on top to make
We put one candle at the end of each octopus arm. It took her 3 or 4 tries to blow them all out!
They picked up M3, M4, and I and we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa B's to have supper with Uncle Dave and Aunt Nissa. We had an exciting game of Catch Phrase before heading back to Grandma and Grandpa M's for the night.
